331 dyno session (part duex)

got the PV replaced with a working one. That didnt fix the problem however.

I think my fuel pump might be screwed up. Its supposed to flow 6.5 to 8psi of pressure. A lot of times it flows only 5.5psi when the cars at idle. had my g/f watch the gauge when I did a run and she said it dipped near 4.5psi near the middle of the run then went back up between 5.5 and 6.5.

So either im running out of pump (which I shouldnt), the pump is messed up, or the line volume cant support it. Will keep you posted what I find out.

Re: 331 dyno session (part duex)

Do you have a cheapy fuel gauge? I would not trust any fuel gauge that cost under $30.00. It will read pressure, and show you pressure changes, but the actual running pressure will not be what it reads, maybe within 3 - 4 pounds.

That air-fuel ratio before the secondaries open.... can not be caused by a lack of fuel pressure. The fuel bowl should have more then enough reserve gas in it to keep the level steady. If it was a fuel pressure issue, the air/fuel ratio would change as the fuel level in the bowl depleats. Your ratio stay flat line, but at lean level of 14:1. Plus the chart showed a lean level, and you did find a bad power valve. That issue was a power valve malfunction.

Did you put it back on the dyno to watch the air/fuel? Can we see the new chart?

If you are running low on gas, the fuel filter is always a suspect. A good high flow filter cost $40.00 and up.... anything else belongs on Honda's.

Re: 331 dyno session (part duex)

fuel pressure gauge is a 0-14psi one from summit. Fuel pump is the 110gph summit fuel pump. Filter is not a cheapy see-thru or anything either.
The graphs didnt change any at all. The power valve might of been bad and that problem was corrected, but it did not fix my AFR problem before the secondaries kick in.

Most of yesterday was spent trying to lean out my cruising mixture. Under cruising power, my AFR was around 12:1. Weve gotten that up some, to around 13:0 to 13:3 when cruising, but its still to0 rich.

Sounds like you need to start putting wire in the idle feed restrictions...

Re: 331 dyno session (part duex)

Its unlikely the power valve was bad unless the diaphram was blown/puntured. The power valve fuel flow is metered by the size of the PV channel holes in the metering block (under the power valve) rather than the valve itself. There are hi flow PV's for large carbs/alky applications however.
Your problem may well be caused by the secoundaries opening too quickly. There is no accelerator pump on vac secoundaries and fast opening can cause a momentary lean stumble. Try the next heavier diaphram spring, it should help considerably...

Re: 331 dyno session (part duex)

the power valve was messed up for sure. The "new" one I had in there had almost 0 amount of travel to it.

I had thought about the secondary springs and was going to give that a try over the next couple days of driving it to and from work.

Re: 331 dyno session (part duex)

it stays rich during cruising, but goes lean on me during WOT runs (until the secondaries come in) ... I dont get it

Re: 331 dyno session (part duex)

My 2 cents....
Rich during cruise - primary jets, idle mixture....possibly bleeds.
Goes lean at WOT...you floor it, pv and accelerator pump both suppling fuel to primaries only, secoundaries "flop" open too quickly, large amount of air introduced but little/no fuel flow from secoundary circuit...yet, circuit catches up and you away... this is what I think is happening.

It is not a DP, the secoundaries have no assistance from its own accelerator pump or pv, so it must open gradually.

Next time you take it apart, remove the pv and you will see two small holes in the chamfered area immeadiately under the pv. Those two holes are what controls how much fuel the pv delivers....not the pv itself, it just controls at what vacuum it delivers it. I am sure the area around the open valve is much larger than those two holes. It is possible to enlarge those holes BUT it is very hard to make them smaller (plug and re-drill)....and keep in mind that your looking at the primary circuit, its not there to cover the secoundaries.

Re: 331 dyno session (part duex)

idle mixture is between 13.8 to 14.8 and pulling 14"
changed jets 9 sizes down and it had 0 "ZERO" effect on cruise AFR
