Re: Disappointing Day on the Dyno

Hey Kevin, sorry to see what happened....but the vacuum is nothing more than an assist for the master. If your pedal went to the floor, you have other problems, non of which will have to do with vacuum.

Re: Disappointing Day on the Dyno

Here it is after the initial tear-down.

Now you can get a better look at my vacuum pump set-up. It's not so hidden anymore!

The adjuster will be out next Monday or Tuesday to inspect it for the supplement the body shop filed. I've gotten $3K from them so far.

I'm still not sure exactly what happened with the brakes. All I know is that the pedal went soft and then straight to the floor, and I found the vacuum line laying on the back of the intake. When I hooked it back up the brake pedal came back and the brakes work, but they still seem a bit spongy.

I tend to agree with R.Olds and MauriSSio that there is something else wrong here as well, and I am planning to get the brakes thoroughly checked out once it's back together.

One theory I've gotten is that when I lost vacuum to the booster the pedal actually got harder, but when I stabbed the brakes a leak in the system is what caused the pedal to go soft due to the system losing pressure. I don't know... we'll see.

Re: Disappointing Day on the Dyno

Okay, I have about $6K from the insurance company to work with so far. The new panels and parts are on their way and barring any issues this thing should be heading to the paint booth in the next two weeks. I am having the entire car re-sprayed in candy apple red, so it should be better-than-new when I get it back.
Then I'm planning a trip to the track to see what she'll do! A slick, new paint job and a little less bondo should be worth at least a tenth, shouldn't it???

Re: Disappointing Day on the Dyno

Glad to see it coming back around so soon! Seems like some people have to fight with their insurance co's for a year or more, on deals like this.

Really interested to see how you do at the track :-)

Re: Disappointing Day on the Dyno

The nice thing about having the front end off the car is that I can finally work on some areas that I couldn't access before! The body shop has been very accomodating by letting me work on it over the weekends.

It will be ready to hang the new sheet metal next week and then on to the paint booth. The delay has been that the supplier sent all of the parts for the wrong year Mustang the first time and then shipped them to the wrong body shop!
