anyone real numbers for 302 with edl top end kit

Hi all,

I acquired a nice engine a few months ago. It's a 302 with 10:1 compression (according to builder) with the edelbrock rpm heads (2.02/1.6), the edelbrock rpm cam with rpm intake. the carb is the 650cfm thunder series (1806).
Has anyone got real HP/TQ numbers for such an engine? edelbrock advertises 367HP, my engine builder thinks thats a bit unrealistic and I don't believe it either.
Desktop Dyno confirms the 350. Anyone any experience with that combination? ever dynoed one?
gearbox is T5 and backed by a 3.5:1 ratio 9" track loc

I have not run your combo on the dyno, but I have run the Chevy 415 HP combo setup-- They were NOT EVEN CLOSE__ the 415 rated really made 357 Hp -- The guy came back with a 383 instead of a 350 and even then , the engine only made 395 HP with the extra 33 cubic inches-- The cam is the biggest problem, the next problem. they DO NOT have the compression the are claiming either

same story so. Compression number is by engine builder. so the compression should be ok.
it's not an edelbrock engine, just the top end kit on a good block.

no dynos in this country (ireland), but i'm sure 350HP feels different :-)

If you want to improve what you have, the camshaft is where there is the most room for improvement. I can help you with the correct grind to get

my guess would be 300-325hp max. Edelbrock has a magic dyno like westech does..........Joe can bring the numbers up.

I would be delighted to hear recommendations, but I'll need to go back to engine builder first to doublecheck all the numbers (valve size 2.02/1.9, compression 10:1) ... to not waste anyones time

Thanks,

Kalli

If that engine is what you think it is, it should be a good foundation for a nice street combo. If you get Joe to spec a cam for you, it will be a big improvement. If you have someone who can "massage" those heads, it would be even better!

I knew that the Edelbrock cams are not the best, but I didn't know their "power packages" were so far off. The whole point is to take away the guesswork... Ohwell! It seems like Edelbrock would have some very unhappy customers on their hands if they were to dyno their engines!

Unfortunately, that's the case with most 'packages' =/. I know a guy with a FMS 351 crate motor that came with the pistons .020" in the hole. There is just no guarantee a package will work anymore. That's one reason we're working hard to adopt a local racers dyno (on a regular basis) to verify things and break in motors before we ship them. I absolutely refuse to fall into that mess T&L and others have got themselves into. If I say a motor will make 457hp, it better make 458hp or better when the customer gets ahold of it =/.

That's the way I would look at it... under-promise and over-deliver!!! It just doesn't make sense; it's not like Edelbrock can't create packages that make the power they advertise! It seems like a little more flow on the heads and a better cam profile would do the trick. Oh, and maybe put a Holley or a Demon on it!

had a 570cfm street avenger on her, but was too stupid to get her running right in traffic. it went way better under load than the edl 650 but crap otherwise. I don't have a Jet collection and the primaries/secondaries are so far away (size) that I would have to buy 5 up and down on each, a set of pump cams and PVs. so I said i stick with the edl since I have a tuning kit for that and she's already running good in traffic and cruise. I believe i run pig rich at WOT, that's why it's running worse than the 570 at WOT but I bought a LM-1 a month ago to verify. it should arrive tomorrow. can't wait.
Otherwise when I save a bit of money (3 months), I'll probably go and buy a Demon :-)
