Dyno virgin

Hi All,
Just can back from my 1st dyno - very exciting! I wonder if you guys can tell me what the figures mean. The car is a 71 galaxie with a stock 400 cleveland (only changes are an edelbrock performer manifold and 600 vac sec holley). the graph show 214.5 BHP @ 4500rpm at the rear wheels- thought this sounded quite good. The torque was 1350 lbs. This i dont understand. Obviously it cant be ft lbs?? What is it and is it good? The guy running the dyno seemed to think it was good for the car.

Thanks for any help
Galman

Re: Dyno virgin

It was definitely not ft lbs Seems like an error on the part of the dyno operator...

Re: Dyno virgin

If the engine is stock, the FIRST (pre 1972) 400's had FLAT TOP pistons and significantly higher compression than the later 351M/400's. Their cam timing wasn't all retarded, either. These first 400's ran CONSIDERABLY better than the later units.

A 4bbl intake/carb and a good exhaust can really pick them up.

Good Luck!

Congratulations! A pic of the graph would be helpful. 215hp @ 4500 would be 250 ft/lb of torque at that RPM. Around 250-270 HP at the crank, depending on tranny. If the torque were 350 NM, that would be about 258 ft/lb peak torque at a lower RPM. Perhaps that's it?
