Versatile & Home Grown Plug Wire Dividers

I got this idea from FordMuscle member "ScottH". I was not real sure I would like it but thought I would give it a try anyway and I have to say that I do like the way it came out. I really like how much it cost and how long it took. All you need is some big thick zip ties, some thin zip ties, and some cutters.

If you have that, you are set. I happened to have all this stuff sitting around my garage already so I was in business. Here is the step by step:

When you have your wires sorted to where you like them, take your big zip tie and wrap it around all the wires. Be sure to leave some slack.

Take the thin zip ties and wrap each one between each wire. To keep it neat make sure that they all go on the same way.

Snug up all the zip ties. When they are snug then turn them all so the lock part of the zip tie is under the wires and out of view.

When you look under the wires you can see that they are all lined up and neat.

Take some clippers and cut the zip tails off.

Repeat where needed. I did two sets of 4 wires, then one set of 3 wires, and one set of 2 wires. I think it looks pretty good. Nice and clean and not to flashy.

This side also looks good. Nice and simple.

The nice thing about this is that if you don't like them you can cut them off and not be out anything. The black looks nice and does not take away from the 'bling'. They also match the wires. You can't argue with the price either. Cost = Under $10. Enjoy.

Very nice and neat but if your firing order ends in 7 8 you should separate them farther in the loom. Running 7 and 8 too close will cause detontation and do piston damage.

That's pretty dang cool! Goes in the 'why didn't I think of that?' category.

Thanks for sharing.

I think I have them separated far enough. If I find there are any problems I will change them. That is the beauty of these ties. Easy enough to adjust and even easier to just cut off.

Re: Versatile & Home Grown Plug Wire Dividers

Listen to gbic1, he's right!!!
Ford has had TSB's out for this exact problem for years. Especially vehicles with high output ignitions. I only wish I'd known about it when I did a tune up on a 93 F-150 I owned years ago.
The truck ran fine and I'd just done a tune up a few weeks earlier. I routed the wires where they looked the best and were orderly. Little did I know I was about to cause myself a bunch of grief.
I loaded up a couple of sleds on my trailer, and a buddy and I headed north to the UP to do some sledding. About a 6 hr one way trip.
On the way home Sunday the truck just didn't seem the same. It ran but something was wrong. I knew something was up when it stalled backing the trailer up the driveway. I parked the truck overnite and didn't think too much of it.
The next morning I started the truck for work and heard the worst knocking sound coming from deep in the motor. I drove to work without incident knowing all the while that I had troubles coming.
I had a buddy come by later that day and we came to an agreement that something had let loose, maybe a piston skirt, or spun bearing.
Long story short, I nuked number 6 piston, nuked it good. Still have it on the shelf in the garage.
We ended up doing a complete rebuild, complete with FRPP stainless headers since the stock manifolds sprung when they came off and wouldn't go back on.
The plug wire routing is no joke, the motor wouldn't have burnt down the one piston for any other reason.
