Here are my Probes, that I smoothed and TBC'ed.

AGREED...works everywhere...on edges of everything...does not matter if it is
fuel, air, or liquid...least resistance wins...

Sharp edges are NO good...especially where heat is a factor...

Oh wait...it's a motor...that would be everywhere...

Man...I forgot all about the shaving cream trick for filings...

Execellent writeup!

"...uhh...TBC'ed???..."

Thermal Barrier Coating

You prep the pistons, apply the coating with an airbrush, then heat cure it. You can pay PolyDyne or similar companies to do it for you, or buy the chemicals (like $20 for enough to do a few motors) and do it yourself. It rejects heat, makes it harder for carbon to stick, and gives a bit of "armor" to the piston top.

Can we get more info on the coating? Where to buy, name, etc.

Re: Another Technique for Piston Notching.

Not trying to hijack a great thread, but here ya go...

Internal Engine Coatings : Tech Line Coatings

I've bought from either Jegs or Summit in the past, can't remember which. I've used their products a few times now, going back into the 90's.
