64 Granada swap

Just completed rebuilding the front end of my 64 and installing a set of Granada spindles. I've replaced every bushing and the tie rods. I'm having a problem with the strut rods though. The strut rods had steering stops that protruded upwards just past where they were bolted to the lower control arm. They limited my turning to about 3/4 of a turn with the new spindles. I ended up cutting them off for clearance. We threw on a couple of 15" rims and tires from my '71 galaxie that fit the new rotors. These are very large tires, and larger than what will end up on the car when I'm done, just temporary so we can move the car around. My problem is that the tires rub the frame. I know if I go to a smaller tire size it will minimize the problem, but I don't know how small I need to go. Also, do I need to fabricate a replacement for the steering stops I removed? Currently the steering has 5 1/2 turns lock to lock (without the tires on). Anyone else out there run into this problem?

I heated the stops on the strut rods and bent them up just a little. This gave me a lot more steering. Hope this helps.

On my 63, I shaved off about 3/4 to 1" off the top. It worked out great. Also ground the contacting edge to smooth it a little.

How many turns do you have lock to lock (stop to stop) now?

TIA

Same size in the back? I'm trying to figure out how big of a tire I can fit back there as well, as I'm going to install a posi unit and maybe replace the gears. I have a 3.50 now, and putting in a T-5, was thinking about going to a 3.80 or a 4.11. Planning on sticking to the street, maybe take it to the track once a year.

Thanks for the help,
GregG
