What wheels sizes are you running on the untubbed 622-65 Fairlanes?

I am about to purchase some wheels for the rear and was wondering what width and offsets wheels you are using and the tire you have mounted.

As best as I could figure yesterday. An 8" will fit nicely with a 3.5" offset (my rear end is narrowed about 2-3" from stock width). Possibly a 10" with same offset but then I run into possible porblems with the bludge of the tire on the 275r60 115's?

I'm ashamed to say... 14 X 6, 3 1/2" B.S. with 225/70R14 Just for kicks, I tried to cram a 15 X 8, 3 1/2" B.S. with BFG 275/60. I think the clearance is there in the wheelwell. The problem is that the tire is too tall and the stock rear is too wide for the low skirt. Since yours is narrowed 1 to 1.5" each side, it might go in there. I'm not sure if it will work with the 4 1/2" B.S. and a narrowed rear. Maybe the 64 wheel well is a little larger than the 65? 64 Tbolt, that must be the case, since you're running a pile of back-spacing. What width rear are you running?

The housing I have is about 54.5" axle flange to axle flange. I also cut the lip on the front of the wheel well a bit also. I believe I can get a 28" tire in there with no trouble, but the wheels are going to have to be just right with the bs and the bludge of the tire around 11"-11.5".

Brian, you don't happen to have those tires and wheels laying around do you? Wish I could find a set locally here to trial fit.

Just Strokin, yeah I have them on my street rod. I just used them to do the four-link set-up. I'll run them later, but I'm a long way from done with the car.
The big Moultrie swap is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Swing by here and borrow 'em if you want, or you might find a set at a low price in Moultrie. They'll have everything there. I'm leaving out of here very early Saturday morning.

The axle housing under my Fairlane is 49.5" from housing flange to housing flange. I may have to run a spacer between 1/4" and 1/2" to get the tires and wheels centered in the wheel well. Right now, some old 225r70's will fit without any problems front to back.

I wish I was going to the swap meet this weekend, but a friend is having surgery and need to stick around and help them.

One word of caution on the 225/70R14's. My fronts scrub big-time on a hard turn. I'm not running the coil spring insulator, so that might help if I find some to install. That and a fat sway bar. The added weight of the C really lowered the front. Maybe since you're running the Al heads and fiberglass, your front won't sit too low. Crite's f'glass fron bumper supposedly removes 40 pounds where it counts. The battery in the trunk should also help to lift the front a little.

I bought the housing already shortened and then got moser axles made for it. Actually like the way the housing with the drum brakes fits under the car. It makes it easier to get wide tires in the fender wells, specially with the 3" wheel studs.

also, I used the offset hangers from mopar to move the rear of each spring inboard 0.80". this makes the springs sit a little straighter under the car and I don't have to worry about the tire scrubbing the leaf spring behind the axle housing.
