Front Coilover Conversion

Has anybody given this a try? I know it says GM, but while looking at drag shocks I noticed the '70-'81 Camaro has about the same dimensions as a '64 Fairlane. This might actually be a bolt in swap.

WOW, that does look like it would work. Wonder how much they run. If someone will buy me a set, I'll let you know how it works out.

SWEET! I would love something like that in one of the Mavs. Wouldn't work on the 64 'lane though because of the funny upper arm mounting location.

I don't see why it won't work (the photo with the blue control arm). All you have to do is rotate the mounting bar 90* and bolt it down. The problem might be the bolt size and mounting the lower control arm.

I don't see why the QA1 system won't fit either. The shocks for the Carmaro's are similar in length to the 62-65 Fairlanes. Part number GMP11.

I emailed Tech Support at QA about the coil over kit above and got these specs back...

Larry,
On your fairlane-
I think its possible to install our gmp kit in your fairlane,
I know the shock & spring are similar
Hear are the dimensions-
Shock- 9" compressed & 14" extended
This shock has a stud top and a t-bar lower mount
Spring- lower 2 1/2" I'd. - 3 1/2" o.d
Spring- upper 4.100"
Spring height 11"
Spring rate on a gmp11 is 365/465
Spring rate on a gmp15 is 250/350
The lower t bar is 3" long
Bolt spacing should be 2 1/2"
I run a early ford product also and am thinking of trying this same set-up.
Hope this info helps, Dave

It is a bit pricey but would be great for a street/strip car...

Yes, it will work. I just installed this about 3 weeks ago. Two things need to be done to do this coil over converstion.

1. Make a plate to locate and hold the springs in the upper spring cups.

2. Add a 2" shock extension since these shocks are a little shorter or make plates to mount the top of the shock.

Will try to add some pictures next week after getting back from columbus ohio.

i plan on going whole hog mustang II 6 way adjustable coilovers this winter. there are kits at www.rcmotorsports.net for 62-65 fairlanes. it includes a disc brake conversion too, which is a bonus for me. theyre a little expensive, but they seem pretty complete, so thats my plan. if anyone has had any experience with these kits id be interested to hear some opinions. good luck- joe
