transmission

what do i need to mount a 1978 351w motor to a 86 aod trans from a behind a 302 motor.i have the flex plate and starter from the 302 motor.will the flex plate fit on the 351w

The AOD flex plate will fit the 351W, but it has the wrong balance. You need a 28 oz-in balance plate (around '80 the small block balance was changed to 50 oz-in). Ford Racing carries one, or you can have the AOD plate rebalanced for the older engine. But it seems like their is an old OEM one that will work (28 oz-in balance but with the same diameter, no. of teeth and torque converter bolt pattern as the AOD flex)? Try asking on the Tech board; more people will see the post.
