Is this O.K.??? Shock Tower Mod on 63\'. See Pic

Been doing a little cutting and grinding Question is Crites calls for 23 3/4" on lower gusset and 27 3/4"on shock tower. I'm at 24" lower gusset and near 28" at shock tower. Can't really get any more than that, but what did anyone else go with???Any tips before I start welding her up?????Will this be O.K. to avoid any future problems???Motor is coming together too(fly cutting pistons now for the SCJ heads)It's getting really exciting now

That's only 1/8" each side. I don't think I would worry about it. To be honest, I don't remember checking the dimensions. i just slapped the f'glass on, marked and cut, then positioned the lower gussets as good-looking as possible.

Get as much room as you can and then a touch more as it gets tight down beside the shock towers when you change plugs or bolt the headers on. Also for the BBF, you want to make some moon shaped cut in the upper A arm support for header clearance. I don't have any pics with me on this computer but you need to look at the Crites pics they sent and it shows them.

The "new" instructions call for notching only for the 390-427-428 on the lower gussets. I also have the old instuctions and they say for big blocks. I will check this tomorrow with Crites. Maby a different header shape now?? I have a little over 28" down to the lower gussets where I have 24". Both are more than what is called for in the instructions. I will mock it up with a block and tranny to check things out. Thanks for the input!! James

I agree...The 'mooning' was not necessary for anything I could see on my 460 swap. That was a lot of work for nothing

Countrywi, have you bought the lower cross member or the upper support brace, rad mounting kit or new front springs yet? If not I have it all for sale. Are you going to keep the heater motor and wiper motor? I made block off covers for them, can throw them in if you buy any of the above.

Heres some pics of rad kit and upper support brace

my instructions said to take out the steering box and grind the corner for #8 pipe NOT theres plenty of room for that pipe.i called charles and asked about it and he saidwe havent changed the instructions yet.And i had to grind a little on the lower gussets.Other that everything went fine

I would be interested in the upper export brace and the radiator mount kit. I have the lower brace and the big block springs. Did you use Crites radiator???????? I did call today and Crites said not to cut the lower export brace for the 460. Any thing else you might have for the swap?? I still need Victor intake, radiator, Distributor, and a few more hours in the day
Thanks alot!!!!!! James (Wisconsin)
P.S. Your car is simply INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

I believe a lot of the knotching and grinding isn't so much for clearances as much as room to slide the pipes into position or so it seemed for me........
