How about who we are and what Fairlane we have?

I`m new to this forum and I own a 64 ranch wagon, soon to be a 427 tbolt type, including 9" with factory style ladder bars and glass hood and fenders. And yes a real 427 with 4spd.

How about who we are and what Fairlane we have?

New to the forum- first posting.

I have a '68 Formal roof 'lane. It was originally a Diamond blue 289 car. By the time I acquired it in a trade 13 years ago, it had been midnight blue, and finally black- bumpers and all. Also, somewhere along the line the 289 had disappeared and was replaced with a 302. (or so I'm told) I know it's a small block, and it's too narrow to be a 351W.

I used it as a daily driver until 1995, and parked it then. It's been sitting in my garage since 1998, and I had semi-tried to sell it, though not fervently. I've been sort of thinking I wanted to do a 50's custom or street rod, (and still do) but I finally had a vision and a direction for the Fairlane.

Here's what I want to do: replace the small block/C4/8 inch with a 390/C6/9 inch (maybe someday step uo to a 427 or 428 if I get rich, but I have some good 390 parts already) Upgrade suspension as much as is feasible without remaking the entire car. Install and work out the mechanical changes, then diassemble, do bodywork (including some mild custom work to smooth it up a bit) paint and reassemble with full custom interior.

The goal is to have a car that will turn heads, even at a large show, have good performance (including handling) and remain fully streetable and drivable.

yeah, that's probably a tall order. I'm planning to move in the next year, so I don't want to seriously disassemble the car too much before then. I plan to spend the next year researching suspension mods and collecting suspension and driveline parts.

Can anyone direct me to any information regarding suspension upgrades? Mods requiring welding, machining or fabrication are not a problem.

Oh, and one other question to all owners of fairlanes, especially 68-70's: Does it grate on you when your car gets called a Torino?

I'm always polite about it, but I ALWAYS correct those who call my car a Torino

Patrick
Columbia, Missouri

1966 Ford Fairlane 500 Convertible.
302, C4, 3.25 9" Posi, 427 Hood and fiberglass trunklid

Currently in pretty much the same shape I bought it almost two years ago, but I am currently working with a local restoration shop to help finish it up. Hopefully it will be finished by June 2009. Have collected parts over the past year and a half and just recently added the last few pieces I need so I can now start on reassembly.

Re: How about who we are and what Fairlane we have?

Here's my 66 and it's bone stock for right now. Stock 289 with green dot tranny and etc. I'm gathering all the parts to make it into what I want...

I did manage to snag a stock Ford aluminum dual plane high rise which will be great on her!

I'm Rick and I'm a Technical Illustrator...they pay me to draw pictures of
airplanes! LOL! Great job and no stress!
