Does anybody have casting numbers or serial numbers for 8.8 rear ends or vehicle models to fit on a '66 hardtop? Whats the going rate for these rears at junkyards?
None directly fit. The car ones have coil spring brackets and the trucks all have the pinion offset to the right which will put the driveshaft into the side of the tranny tunnel.
You can modify one to work though. Truck 8.8's can have the left side shortened and use two of the same right side axles to make the pinion closer to centered.
Usually the ratio is on the tag something like this 3sl27 or 3.27:1 hope it helps. The sl is limited slip if my memory serves me correctly. They are easy to rebuild. I have a late model mustang and it holds up to drag racing, for the last 3 years longer then I expected.
The 8.8 in the '87-'88 Turbo Coupes have traction lock, disc brake 3.55(stick) or 3.73(auto) from the factory. Main problem is they are only 4 lug, but '94-'95 Stang axles swap with no prob...
