390 sitting too far forward in engine bay?

Help please! Last week I installed the 390 into my '66 Fairlane. I put new (Korean made) motor mounts from Auto Krafters. Well the engine now is sitting about an inch forward too far. The old marks are evident in the trans crossmember from the washers, the humps in the tranny cooler lines that go up and over the sway bar are about an inch forward and the fan is way too close to the radiator when I went to drop it in. When I replaced the motor mount isolators I did them one at a time and the two were never off at the same time so I'm pretty certain the intermediate support bracket (upper half of steel mount) is on the correct side. Just to be certain, can anyone verify for me where the cutout or notch is on their motor mounts, this is the notch that provides clearance to the nut on the isolator. Is it pointed to the front or rear of the engine? See page 8-86 of the '66 Fairlane factory service manual. If I do have the mounts on correctly then it appears the isolator has the mounting stud molded in the wrong location? Has anyone ever had this dilema? A picture of your motor mount installed would be helpful. I do have the isolators located correctly. Auto Krafter p/n 2240 is RH and 2241 is LH.

Thanks,

Well, not to be sarcastic, but I refused to buy anything thats made in China, Korea, Taiwan for my classic American musclecars. Because I have gone thru this stuff too!
Motor mounts that dont line up with the originals, brackets that are shaped wrong, and parts that are inferior to stock parts.
It made me pissed off every time I needed to do something similar.
Now I insist on American made products

I took all of the mounts an isolators back out today and tried to install them wrong. You can only install the isolator one way and on one side will it fit, the same for the intermediate mount. With it's angle and stud location, there is only one way it will fit. I tried every combination to screw it up and it won't. I reassembled everything the same way I had it. Now I'm only about 1/2" too far forward. I lifted the engine and had all of the bolts loose so when I was lowering the engine and shaking the heck out of it, the thing must have settled better this time and is sitting back further. The old mounts were twisted somewhat, including the tranny mount. Maybe over 39 years the original mounts twisted and moved around somewhat. With the location everything is at now, maybe is due to new parts?

Well, if you got it to within a 1/2 inch of where the washer marks used to be then you are ALMOST spot on! The engine mounts lifting the motor up a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch will make the tranny boly down point a little further foreward than previously. Run it and give it a week of driving then loosen the cross member bolts and see if it don't slide a tiny bit backwards...

put that crap back in the box and send it back and ask them "how dare you sell me this kind of crap from some country who's whole idea is to ruin our economy. these people make junk parts out of recycled junk cars and they don't care if it works or not just that they can take american dollars home with them. they will put any twisted piece of metal in a box and tell you it's what ever you want to buy

It sure would be nice if someone made polyurethane mounts here in the USA!
