67 Fairlane conv what are these for?

I am wanting to install a flowmaster dual exhaust but since my 'lane is a convertible there is a round shaped weight device bolted to the frame at each rear corner of the car. It looks like all that holds them on is 2 bolts. Can someone tell me what there for and what would happen if they are removed. Thanks for your help!!

Is anything attached to them? Are they attatched to something other than the frame? If the answer is no, They are probally the places that chains are attached to for transporting on car hauling Semi.

No these are definitely some type of vibration dampners. I know I've seen a post somewhere before about what they do but cant remember. They are attached to the frame with 2 bolts and look like very large oil filter housings. They are only on 66-67 fairlane convertibles.

AFAIK, they are oil filled vibration dampners, designed to add mass to the rear of a convertable body/frame to increase the moment of inertia to move a harmonic up or down in the chassis. the harmonic was probably brought on by the lack of a hard roof structure in a convertable.

I think i'm going to take them off and see how the car drives then decide which way to go with an exhaust system. will post with results
