8\" wide wheels under a \'66-\'67 Fairlane?

Is anyone running 15" x 8" wheels under their '66-'67 Fairlanes with stock wheel houses? If so, what back spacing are you running? I want to run 255/60/15 tires. 7" is nice but I thought 8" might be nicer! Any help is appreciated.

run the same tire size on a 7 in" with 4 in" backspacing.

I run 8x17 with255-45s on the back of my 67 ranchero with no problems at all, plenty of clearance without touching any metal. Just go for it[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img]

just went to the shelby event at the petersen museum and the hoosiers were on cobras reading 235 on the tires, but they are much wider than my 245 bfg's so i ask why? is this like shoes where different brands say a certain size but all are different in size? or is it the rim size that dictates the tread patch? all i know is that when i see a 65 stang with hoosier235's wider than my fairlanes' 245's it makes me exicted for the day when i get wider rims and real tires! btw there were 2 original shelby 65's one had rolled the fenders and is really raced!(risky value move)
