steering box and shaft modification 1964 Fairlane

Has anyone upgraded their steering box on a 64 fairlane? I'm wanting to replace the steering column and box with something better. Building a Thunderbolt and currently it has the box with non removable shaft. Will a different box work using say a 64 to 67 mustang column and adding some sort of joint? I also want to eliminate the column shifter and am planning on upgrading to Granada disc. Any help would be appreciated.

Ahh, you're in luck. Here's a post on that very swap. Mine was a '65, but it will be the same for a '64.
