New guy around town...

Ok...story goes like this:

my grandfather years ago picked up a 1969 4dr Fairlane (let's say it was in the mid 80's) for $400 bux...it was purchased from the original owner. It had sat outside under a tree for UNK years...so my Grandfather put a carb on it, changed the fuel lines, flush the brake system and began to drive it...from that day forward, this was his MOST RELIABLE CAR and they drove it everywhere...so asi I and my brother were older, we would drive this car occasionally...It's a great car and has been a great car...my grandfather drove it every day until he past away 5 years ago...

so now my brother & myself have inherited the car and after it sitting under a car cover @ my brother's, we're considering bring this beast back to life. We have some plans but what we need to do 1st and foremost is to replace the front fenders and maybe the hood on this model car.

I understand that there are some interchangeable parts on this car with the comets and ranchero's etc.. my grandfather had a couple of small accidents on each of the front corners...so now I'm forced to replace those fenders & b/c of the springs on the hood, the hood has wrinkled toward the rear of the hood...

I have researched the site on several occasions and I'm impressed with the amt of info available. I wanted to take this moment and introduce myself and at the same time attempt to located differnt links outside of this site and maybe some suggestions as how to obtain other parts for the car without having to go the CRITES (FIBERGLASS) route.

Thanks again!

Joe

Welcome to the board.

First thing you need to do on the body panels if you want to stay away from fiber is find a good parts yard in your area. I'm the wrong guy to ask as far as parts swapping on a Fairlane, but there are plenty of guys here who can tell you. Also if you find a GOOD parts yard the guy who runs it can probably tell you some of the other cars that would work for those panels.

Or there is always Ebay. Gotten a lot of parts that way in the past...just be careful if it looks TOO good.
