Picked up a Fairlane

Yep! The '64 and '65 C4 or green dots as they were called are a true three speed but they cannot be shifted manually through the gears. Start out in the "D" position and it will shift through all three gears. Go to www.mustangcentral.net/tech/c4.html. It is packed with C4 information. And I'll bet this site has a transmission section also. I just changed my three speed manual to a '65 C4 in my '63 Fairlane 500. In the short trip around the block it shifted very well.

Later!

That helps a lot. Next question... can I use a later C-4 with the normal shift pattern with my bellhousing and 5 bolt engine?

How late? Some C4s will not match the mounting holes of the early C4s. I do not know which will and which won't but the C4 information on this site might.

Later!

TCI claims that the C-4's they sell will work. Thanks.

Cool, way to keep them alive. No shame in owning a four-door anymore. The aussies love them and all the hype about mainstream muscle cars makes four-doors even more appealing in my opinion.
