Need some help - Suspension and Brake upgrades

I am looking at purchasing a 66 Fairlane Convertible. I want to upgrade the brakes, suspension and steering but I am unsure about what would fit well and what works well. The car will have a 390/C6 with headers. Right now the car has a column shift but I would be willing to switch to a floor shift. What are some things I can do to upgrade the brakes, suspension and steering and what kind of fit problems might I run into. I would really like to install a rack and pinion but I have seen that the column shift does not work with this and that headers may be a problem as well. I am not looking for awesome performance but I want the car to drive well. I would even be willing to go with a standard power steering setup and just upgrade the suspension. If anyone has installed any upgrades and could share with me what has worked and things to look for I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Need some help - Suspension and Brake upgrades

I switched my column shift to a B&M floor shift. It's not a big deal. I have FPA headers www.fordpowertrain.com on my 390 and they fit nicely. I just removed my power steering as the header was melting the power ram seals and boot. I totally rebuilt my front suspension with original type parts. It's not tha texpensive. I also added front disc brakes from a Granada. This is a very popular and inexpensive swap see here for some info on this swap

Here are some shots of my brake swap I am currently doing. I have one more new brake line to run.

Anything else? Just ask.
