Picked up another 65 fairlane 2dr hardtop for $400. I want to try my first paint job on this car, but have no idea how to get the side molding off without damage to it or breaking the clips that hold it on. Any ideas? I think the clips are pretty high and I don't have the money for new ones.

Here's how I did mine. 1) Remove all the interior panels and give everything a squirt of wd40 or whatever. 2) Carefully, easy now, remove all the nuts from the inside of the trunk, quarter panels, doors, fender. You should be able to reach everything though it may require some strange contorsions. 3) Make some new clips (you'll roach a few). I made new clips from heavy pvc plastic (I cut up a cat litter bucket) small carriage bolts and gorilla glue adhesive... be sure to rough up the plastic and let the glue cure a good long while.

You'll end up breaking the plastic ones on the narrow upper quarter trim. I used these universal pieces, and I just cut them down to fit:

PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you some pics of mine (recently painted & all trim polished).
