Hey There...newb info and question ahead, Thanks!

Thanks for your time first of all.
Second,
I just bought a red 66 fairlane 2 dr sedan.

here is the info on her...

289 (Built built built)
I got a dyno sheet with 260 rr wheel Hp from the PO
Oh yeah, and it has a really nice system in it...

Obviously the PO cared about going fast and listening to loud music, nothing wrong with either as long as the rest of the car isnt literally falling apart, which, BTW, it is.

I have been looking for a car to give me and my dad something to do together. I settled on this one because it was in the budget and Dad had the same car with a 390 in it when it was new. Dads into old fords and Plymouths. My last cars were Bmw's and GTI's/ They went good, turned great, and stopped well. This thing wont turn or stop, it has 4 wheel drums...which is what my first car had. (64 ford galaxie)

We spent the day fixing the brakes, Thanks Dad!

So, here is where Im at. the PO was the wood screw type if you know what I mean. None of the right fasteners are in it, things are siliconed onto the body work, and there is more bondo and rust through than I can count. However, the rust through is in very fixable areas, none in the shock towers, frame corners or supports. It had the rt rr qtr replaced at some point, pretty poorly.

These are the things I need to look at first...suggestions on where to get them would really be appreciated, Im 37 now and havent bought a part for an old ford since I was 16(In 85) and back then, all of the parts places had stuff for em. Now, I get looked at funny by the kid behind the counter, of course he drives a 13 second import with more flash than a playboy shoot...

Window seals
rr qtr's
tail lights and hd light bezels
window felts and rubbers
floor pans and such....

I know there is a place somewhere that has the good stuff, can one of you help me find it?

Thanks again for your patience, and your time...

Hodge

Hey There...newb info and question ahead, Thanks!

You should consider joining The Fairlane Club. Lots of great tech tips and advertisers offering everything you need. You can also get good parts and great service from Dearborn Classics @ www.dearbornclassics.com - I've also had good luck with autokrafters.com

Enjoy your transition to real cars!

Wow, Thanks for the quick replies guys, I'll check em out right now.

As for pics, I need to find some place to host them...and I'll get a link.

Fairlane club?? (Of America?)

is really a benefit? Man, I have no problem throwing money into a club if it turns out to be a help, or if they benefit a community of some kind...
The only club I came across was the FCOA....

Thanks guys

Hey There...newb info and question ahead, Thanks!

Went to your website - I'm trying to figure out how to hang two mountain bikes off the back of my '64 Fairlane so my wife and I can go out and enjoy both activities on the same trip!

As to The Fairlane Club of America - it's just an access thing - really. The guys who run it and run tech articles have tons of knowledge and experience, and have been very approachable when I have had questions. The classifieds are useful when you are searching for "odd" parts, and they have established a pretty good network of Fairlane owners. I don't feel like I wasted the money on the subscription.

Hodge,
Check Melvins Mustangs or classic ford parts. There on the East Side of Atlanta. They will have seal kits and floor pans for the 66. There good people. AutoKrafters are a good place to check also.

Awesome stuff fellas, thanks! I'll give them a shout.

If you have a trailer hitch back there I suggest getting a hitch mount rack. Allen, Saris, Yakima, Or Thule (pronounced toolie), thats he only way to mount them in the rear safely and securely. If You just want secure, go with a Saris "Bones" Rack, they are a 6 strap system that mounts to anything. They have a good size footprint and a soft rubber foot so your pain wont get muk'd up. Just dont leave the bikes on in too long in a parking lot, someone with a pair of scissors will own two bikes and a rack!

HTH!

Hey There...newb info and question ahead, Thanks!

I also like Autokrafters and Dearborn Classics, they seem to have a lot of Fairlane stuff. Also check out Year One and National Parts Depot. Pick up a copy of "Mustangs and Fords" at the book store. There are lots of places in there or more contact info on the places we are all talking about.

And everytime you get upset that you cant find a part just look at what they have for my 64, even less!! Your year should be pretty good for parts. Have fun!
