\'64 Fairlane Z Bar

I have a full pedal setup and Z bar for my '64 Fairlane, but now I'm not so sure it is for a V8.

Anybody able to give me some identification help?

Thanks,

64 V8 set-up

the tube that goes from frame to the block will be longer for a 6 cylinder

Thanks!

What is the length of your V8 tube? The tube I have is 8" long.

Buzz, I know it's not exactly what you're looking for, but perhaps Woody's has more z-bar info.

Rancheroo:

Thanks - Woody's is a great site and I've rummaged around through there, but haven't found anything that identifies the length of the Zbar tube for V8 vs. the 6 cylinder.

I got all these pieces from a New Mexico junkyard that is now a housing development, so I can't get back to the guy to ask what was in the car he pulled these from.

I've tried every way possible to hook up a cable clutch setup for this car, but there just isn't enough "headroom" under the dash for an attachment point to pull the cable and get enough travel.

So, it's either hydraulic, or use the stock linkage.

Thanks,

Buzz

Buzz, I had similar issues with my 66 Ranchero z-bar. I took out a 6 cyl & put in a v8. Folks at the swap meets seem to think these z-bars are made of gold or something. I ended up shortening the tube on my 6 cyl z-bar. With that & a little grinding, it looks like it's going to work.

Not sure if it's true with all old Fords, but it seems like the 'cross tube' on the 6 cyl z-bar would be quite a bit longer than the tube on the v8. It may be a simple matter of cutting & rewelding it.

Good luck, I find myself in similar situations often. i.e. z-bar hell, alternator bracket hell, fuel line & an connector hell..
