Re: direct fit disk brake conversion kit?

I bought a kit from "chocostang" on ebay. These brakes are the same that ford installed, you use the existing spindles. The kit plus a dual bowl master cylinder w/ proportioning valve cost around $800.00. Well worth it very easy install, brakes work great.

1966 fairlane 2-door post, 351C, 4-speed toploader.

Re: direct fit disk brake conversion kit?

Thanks Uncledad, I checked out his stuff on Ebay and figure that's not a bad deal at all. When you bought your kit did it come with everything you needed to get rolling, even the new tie rod ends or banjo bolts? I'd hate to get started on the switch and be missing something like a bolt or whatever. I haven't ever done such a detailed switch before but plan on it.....of course I also plan on switching to a later C4 and rack and pinion steering too! Have you done anything else to your 66 besides the 351 C?

Re: direct fit disk brake conversion kit?

I just ordered the kit from Chockostang also. Called them beforehand with questions and they seem like they're pretty cool people.

It'll be a couple of weeks before I install it, but I'll post back here when I do.

Steve

PS Uncledad, sweet looking sedan you've got there.

Re: direct fit disk brake conversion kit?

i just bought the direct fit kit for my 68, but i have yet to get em on. (i figured since i was ripping the brakes apart, i might as well rebuild the front end, as well) the parts are all 79 grananda, so if you can find anyone who sells the parts individually, it might make save you some money. in addition, i had a little trouble with the order itself, it took over a month to get to the house, and after it arrived, it was missing the prop valve. i called the seller, and he told me he would send it right out. 3 weeks later, i had to threaten to go to ebay and ask for the cost of the prop valve back. i eventually got all the parts, but what a pain in the ass. i can't speak for the parts themselves, as i haven't gotten them on the car, but, they're nothing you can't get somewhere else, and this guy isn't the easiest to deal with.

Rick Racer
"new tie rod ends or banjo bolts" The kit from "chocostang" bolts right up to your existing spindles (as long as your car was a V-8 model originally). You don't mess with the front end at all. The kit has everything you need, rotors, cylinders, back plate, wheel bearings etc. You do not mess with the sterring or alignment at all. The only thing you need to buy additional is the dual bowl master cylinder (he'll sell you one new for around 50 bucks). Good luck.

As far as my "66" it is pretty much stock except for the 351C, disk brakes, and the toploader. My future plans include a posi, 5 speed TKO, and frame connectors.

I bought an adapter for my 64 that I am installing now. It came with a parts list and uses off the shelf parts. Ford 11"+ rotors and GM metric calipers. It looks like I will have about $400 into it with all new parts. I do not have all the parts yet so it is not installed but it looks good so far. I can update when I have everything. Mark

If the link doesnt work they came off ebay. search fairlane disc brake. I has a picture how it mounts. Looks like $105 now. It is so simple and I like the off the shelf parts idea.

Re: direct fit disk brake conversion kit?

I've been working on my Chockostang kit for my 66.

I'm really impressed. It all bolts to your stock spindles, as advertised, and I haven't hit a gotcha so far.

You will still need to buy a couple of 4' brake lines and some miscellaneous fittings for the master cylinder. Bending the new brake lines is the hardest part. I got away without having to flare any ends.

I did paint the master cylinder and the brake calipers as they are bare cast when they arrive.

Based on the way this is going so far, I can definitely say there isn't any reason to go with the more complicated stuff with Granada parts.
