Installing Lokar Kick Down cable in 66 Fairlane

Okay, hoping that someone else has installed the Lokar tranny kickdown cable. Installation instructions are pretty straight forward.. BUT....

I've got a 2 bbl setup with the stock linkages etc...Only thing Im missing is the stock transmission kick down. Decided to buy the Lokar kick down cable kit. The carb end of the cable won't fit into the linkage (hole's too small). That, in theory could be rectified. However, existing cable brackets/return spring setups don't accomodate adding this kickdown cable. Instructions refer to a Spring Return Bracket (Lokar Part number SRK-4000). It's avail at Summit but application is for Holley, Carter, Edelbrock carbs.. nothing about stock 2bbl.

I plan on eventually upgrading to a 4bbl, but for now, would like to use this cable. Will the Lokar spring return bracket work, and if so, is there anything else I need. Any other alternatives to installation?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Walaby, I'm wondering what type of 2 barrel carb you have, mine has a Holley 2 barrel right now, is yours stock?

Mine is an Autolite.. I think it is stock, although the engine is a 302 out of a 72 Comet (I believe). Linkage setup though is stock Fairlane according to the repair manual I have

Walaby, If I'm understanding you...you have only the Lokar kick down cable and not the shifter. I was wondering why you don't use a stock linkage that would bolt right in to that 2 barrel carb? I've got a stock kick down on mine but my carb is a Holley 2 barrel right now.

Well, I would if I had the stock kickdown. Unfortunately, the car didn't come with it when I bought it, and can't find a source, so the Lokar cable was the next best idea.

If you know of a source for the kickdown rod let me know.

Thanks
