stock AM FM radio?

Hey Guys, just not knowing....but did they offer an AM/FM radio for a 66? My AM works fine but AM bites!

Of course it doesn't have to be stock but I don't listen to the radio that much but do like FM better. I wouldn't even know if there's an aftermarket radio that would bolt right in place, I don't want to hack up the dash that's for sure.

Re: stock AM FM radio?

Here is what I did, I left the original AM and single speaker, then installed 4 new speakers, a 4 channel amp in the trunk with a RCA to mini jack for the input, which hooks right into my ipod, no head unit required. Just a little wire coming from under the seat to plug into the headphone jack on the ipod, looks all stock and I have tons of music to choose from. Plus, I can still listen to the hockey game on the AM while I am working on the car!

Re: stock AM FM radio?

I got a 66 and went to wal-mart to look . I found a cd -radio that fit right where the factory am went and cut nothing in the dash . The one I wanted was on display but none for sale so I went to another wm and got one . Make sure you measure the holes where the knobs go through for a good fit . Also goto a place where systems are installed into cars . Look through the used radios cheeper for sale . Again take your measurements with you as you search . Be sure to keep your old radio safe that came with the car , put it up .

You sure about that? I'm not 100% on a 66, but I know that my 63, and the 67 I had were both shaft-mount radios, and there's no way humanly possible for a CD player to fit in those spaces without having to cut the shaft mount holes out.

First ever FM radio in a car in 1952...

First Cassette player in a car 1964...

AM/FM for your 66 MUST be out there but it was likely a deluxe package car that got it....

Re: stock AM FM radio?

I think that 1966 was first year that FMC offered radio options. The AM was standard option.

Then the 8 track deck came in second popularity-wise and included the extra speakers.

Then last was the AM-FM option, and it wasn't a big seller due to there being so few FM radio stations back then.
