Dual point distributor?

I am confused about a distrubutor that I have had in a box in my garage for a number of years. It is a motocraft dual point with no provision for a vacuum canister. the number on the side of the distrib. is C5Of-12131 B which tells me that it's a 65 design. but the 4F24 near the Motorcraft logo says 74(?). When I got it (25 years ago) it was on a 302 in a 68 Mustang (no it wasnt original). My question is it a K-motor distrib? I thought all K-motos used an Autolight. Thinking of rebuilding it, adding a pertronix, and putting it in my 66 Fairlane, but if it is a K-motor I'll unload it and use the funds to buy a MSD.
Thanks for any info.

Re: Dual point distributor?

Ford sold a dual point in their muscle parts but it was C50Z-12127-E. If it doesn't look like there was an opening for the vacuum advance you may have the real deal. Mark

Re: Dual point distributor?

it's a sbf dual point distributor. The original dist had a FoMoCo casting, then the later service replacements had Autolite casting, then eventually was changed to a Motorcraft casting.

Correct. Do not modify it. Sell it to someone looking for a dual point. If you want to add PERTRONIX, find a single point with a vacuum advance feature.

C5OF 12131-B is the Casting I.D. No. of the distributor housing. The ASSEMBLY I.D. NO. (Basic No. 12127) should be on the outer bowl area directly below the cap.

FORD mixed AUTOLITE and MOTORCRAFT frequently during this period as they had to surrender the AUTOLITE moniker.

I am relatively new to the ford world, but so far pretty happy from the GM conversion... LOL.
I have a cobra kit car, 428 engine, 4 speed toploader, jag rear.
My question is on the distributer, it says MOTOCRAFT 12127 on the side of the bowl, but it is electronic inside with no vac advance provision. I did a timing check with a light, I am coming up with 22 deg BTDC at idle.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Dave

It sounds like you have an origional FE dual point that has been converted to electronic.

That is what I was guessing.
Where are the springs and weights, I see nothing. Is 22 deg initial advance bad or good? Should plugs have a diiferent gap now that it is electronic? Any preventive maintenance I should be doing?
Regards...Dave
