diesel in a fairlane?

hello all, im actually a mustang owner but am looking into selling it for the moment. anyways i dont know if any of you watch pimp my ride but they put a GM duramax diesel in a chevy impala. i hate chevys but was wondering if the same thing could be done with a ford powerstroke diesel and if the 67 fairlane would be a good choice for the conversion. i really like the looks of the car. any opinions? that chevy got 800 hp with turbos and everything but i would be happy with 350 and run it on B100 biodiesel.

Re: diesel in a fairlane?

I think it is a great idea. I want to do the same thing with a mustang. You can make gobs of power have a wicked sounding ride and enough torque to pull 3 houses down at the same time. It is time we as hot rodders find better ways to to make power and keep emmissions down. I too have seen the episode you are talking about, and it is great. Foe help you should start poking around on diesal truck wesites for help on the conversion. I know there are websites coverting gas 351 broncos to diesel. A friend of mine is about to but a powerstroke in place of his 351w. Good luck and great idea. Keep us informed and take pics. I think you are moving in the right direction!!

Re: diesel in a fairlane?

I would hate to think of beefing the front end of the car considering the powerstroke weighs about 3000lbs

Re: diesel in a fairlane?

A good alternative to the current powerstroke would be the 4.4 diesel Ford is working on for the upcoming f-150. I imagine its going to be a good bit lighter, and its based off of the 3.6 diesel they put in the Landrovers across the pond, which get around 36 mpg's from what I've read about them. Only problem is you're going to be waiting a year or two to get it. Would be a sweet swap though. And ditto on beefing up the front end, regardless of what you put in it.

Thumbs up Re: diesel in a fairlane?

7.3 deisel weighs 920 lbs 200 lb more than a 385 series block. I am sure that with 720 race coils you would be fine. Who cares about weight when you have 800 + lb ft of torque!!!! I say go for it. With any modification you have fabrication. That is what hot rodding is about

Re: diesel in a fairlane?

Diesel fuel is fifty cents a gallon more than regular around here. New studies show that the black smoke coming out of the diesel exaust is worse than the exhaust out of a car, so what do you accomplish other than spending a ton of money?

Re: diesel in a fairlane?

i would run it on biodiesel and i would be putting out way less emissions than both a gasoline engine and regular diesel. altho im not sure how much a gallon of biodiesel is either.

you could also do a vegetable oil mod to it and use the used cooking oil from restaurants FOR FREE. Although I think the mod kit runs a couple of grand.

Re: diesel in a fairlane?

Used oil from restaurants won't be free too much longer. Know what else used to be free way back when? Gasoline! It was a byproduct of the manufacturing of kerosene and they used to give it away. So as restaurants figure out what they have, they will start to sell it. Remember the American way is to generate as much profit as possible.

Re: diesel in a fairlane?

on mythbusters they ran an old mercedes turbodiesel on unprocessed cooking oil, strained of course. ran fine for those couple miles, but im not sure what long term effects there may be. i think that if the oil companies started investing in this stuff, they could use up the oil until it gets too expensive and then just start selling bio at $2.50. id be happy.i dont care if chevron sells petroleum based or bio based fuel as long i dont have to take a second mortgage out on my house to drive to work and play around at the track on the weekend.
