Gas tank HELP!!

My tank on my 65 Fairlane looks bad and leaks!! Does anyone sell a replacement or do i have to repair? What is involved with the repair? Thanks for the Help!!

I would check ebay to find one . A fast cheep fix if not leaking too bad you can fix it . Take a piece of leather square and run a screw through the leather . Then run the screw in the hole if small .

I am going through this right now... just bought a 66 and I have gas fumes in the interior... not good! When I open the trunk... whew... fumes-o-rama!

So, I have deduced a couple things... my vent tube is old and needs to be replaced and my tank is equally as old... so I am going to replace that as well. There are many places to buy a tank... JC Whitney, eBay, Crites, Auto Parts Warehouse (just Google Fairlane Fuel Tank) and you will find plenty out there for around 200 bucks.

btw... the gas tank just bolts into the trunk floor, so in theory, it should not be that big of a deal to do the swap.

I am going to replace (if I can find) the following:

1. gas tank
2. vent line
3. possibly... sending unit
4. and if I can ever figure out how to do it... fuel line from the gas tank to the carb.

I will let you know how it goes.

I have had no luck finding a tank!! There seems to be no one who makes a tank for a 65. I wonder if another year model or maybe a falcon or another model tank would fit? Anybody know!

try Rock Auto (rockauto.com) I just picked up a tank for a 66 for 150 bucks... brand new!

62 - 65 gas tank have just been reproduced and should be available in a month.

bought my tank from Rock Auto (rockauto.com), shipped to my door for under 200 bucks. Removed and reinstalled in about 2 hours (including some time curse as I spilled gas all over everything!!!!)....

This is a painless and relatively simple swap... I will never repair a tank again, this is the easiest and most time and cost effective way to go.

If you have any questions on how to do this, let me know... I had never changed anything like this in a car before, but I can honestly say this was one of the easiest mods/repairs I have done on a car.
