Re: Idling issue.

I had a similar problem with my 66 when I was driving in VA during the winter after my car had sit up for a little while. It would run good for a bit then start to sputter and would even die on me. I pull over crank up and take off again with no problem until a little further down the road. I stopped and added some stuff to the tank to remove water from fuel and had no problem after that. I think that I had so much water in the tank that when I got going in the cold it would freeze up in the fuel lines, but not really sure if that was what was happening...just a thought.

Re: Idling issue.

I think SCOTT hit the nail on the head..

You fuel pump is probably getting tired... Sometimes the flex in the diaphragm is too much to upkeep the fuel level up at idle after gettign warm...

Check that out...

Re: Idling issue.

Thanks for the tips. I think you're probably right about the pump. I've been told that it was getting a little tired. I've found a few online, not that expensive, what kind of job is it to switch pumps?

Thanks.

Re: Idling issue.

Problem fixed! Turned out it wasn't the pump at all, I popped the hood while it was idling, (very poorly) and could find nothing wrong. Then I heard a nice little *snap*

I had a little arc of lightning jumping from whatever you call that main distributor wire to a heater hose. Havn't got a chance to replace it yet, but I tied the heater hose a little farther off, and everything ran perfect. Took it on a five hour trip the other day whithout even a hiccup. That included an hour of creeping through a enourmous traffic jam. Stop go stop go, perfect idle.

Thanks for all the help along the way, I really appreciate it.

Re: Idling issue.

That's kinda odd for it to jump spark to a heater hose...they are rubber ain't they...unless you have braided hoses. Anyway it is good to know that you have solved you issue...well done.
