Interesting Computer Program

I've been dreaming/thinking about mods to the 302 in my 66 Fairlane, to include cam/manifold, heads, etc... While reading Hot Rod Mag, found an ad for Competition Cams that had a free downloadable program to determine what cam you need for what application. Here's the link

CamQuest 6 -FREE Download from COMP Cams

It not only provides you with what the lift/duration would be, but if you want a comp cams product, gives you the part number to boot. Allows you to compute potential horsepower based on various combo's etc.. For those of us who are just learning the finer details of improved performance, this is a pretty good tool I think.

Just thought I'd share...

Re: Interesting Computer Program

Was one of these available via mailing off $1 for a CD-ROM back when. Then, it was found that "iffn' you modified this and that...." you could obtain -Up to- a certain level of H.P. at xxxx RPM. If you fell 20-30 HP short, the ad was still good for it did say "Up to" in it someplace.

What they did not tell you was it was no good when air pressure varied (like in Mile High Denver) or if you did not buy 110 Octance racing gasoline, or if the humidity was high that day, or iffn.....

Re: Interesting Computer Program

Not sure.. mighta been the same thing. I was looking at it more from a "relative" perspective, to gain a better understanding on the relationship between the different cam grinds, different manifolds, different heads etc.. not necessarily an absolute. To my way of thinking, only way to obtain absolute is for your application to be dyno'd, using the components you put it in, at the altitude you operate at, with the gas you use etc...

Just a good tool for getting relative info and more knowledgeable.
