63 fairlane barn find

I new to your forum, and would like to introduce myself, and ask a few questions. My name is Roger. I have always had a love for cars and restored many, but never a Fairlane I found a barn find 1963 Fairlane 2dr hardtop. That has been stored for the last 30+ years. Pros is that it has super straight body, original paint oxidized to a flat white, all the trim is ding free, air condition car with all original parts. Cons a lot of scratches dash pad is dust, seats carpets etc. The front bumper is pulled out as if some one had tried pulling it by the bumper and has not been driven.
Here are some questions that I need expert advice.
Should I restore it or just get it running and call it a survivor?
If I restore it where can I find emblems such as the roof side emblems, and gas tank lid tank emblem?
Any ideas where to find a good front bumper, and dash pad
Thank You

Re: 63 fairlane barn find

I don't think these cars have alot of value restored unless it was a K code 4 speed. It is good in a way. I finally do not feel bad cutting mine if I want. I sold all my sports coupe stuff since mine will never be stock again. A fuel injected 302 and AOD plus disc brakes only adds value to these in my opinion. Make it yours and have fun with it. You can always paint the dash. Copy some of the Thunder bolt stuff and use a fiberglass bumper and tear drop hood.

Wow, sounds like a great find! Post some pictures if you can. It sounds like a great restoration project. I'm a bit biased, but nothing beats the styling of the '63. Enjoy!

Re: 63 fairlane barn find

over here the 63 fairlane in any body style are very very rare !!!! As a matter of fact, it was this very forum that influenced my decision on buying/procuring this specific body style !!!! a week went buy and at a local car show, info was given where one was up for sale up in the mountains of Puerto Rico...two tone red with white top,red trimed with white interior, bucket seat with console, 63 sportcoupe...it is work in progress ... people stop me to ask and look!!!!... congratulations on your finding that 63 fairlane, day by day the fins will grow on you !!!! make it a driver and work on it as you go, heres some pics of excellent 63's, enjoy, good luck, roger !!!!- mel-

Roger, Two sites you'll want to check out:
FairlaNet
http://www.fairlaneclubofamerica.com
Lots of great info and I'd recommend joining the FCA. It's worth the cost for the information you'll get. Also has a (member only) forum where you can ask questions to people that know these cars through and through.
