Re: 63 Fit Headers

I bought a set for my 65.I haven't installed them yet,but was told that I will have to move my power steering hoses and possibly move the power steering cylinder.I did test fit the passenger side, and it slipped right in...

Re: 63 Fit Headers

I put a set on my '64 a few years ago. I had a little floor to collector interferance on the driver's side, but have not heard anybody else complain about this. Everybody seems to love them. I do not have power steering, so cannot comment on that. Changing plugs is significantly harder now.

Re: 63 Fit Headers

hi !!!! I was going to buy the hookers for my 63 coupe and kept starring at the one tube that went over the header mounting flange and over the other tubes on a pic from the web and for reasons of easy access to the plugs, purchased the doug thorley tri-y's... they fit perfect on my 306 four speed... don't know if I gave up torque and HP, but with 13/16 motorcraft plugs and 90 degree boots black msd plug wires it looks real good !!!!! BTW my other two mavericks have hookers 6901's and they fit perfect also !!!!

Re: 63 Fit Headers

I put the Hookers in my 64. They fit great. I don't have power steering by the way. Plugs and wires are a little tricky. Just take your time, I did have a few plug boots not get securely snapped onto the plugs.

Also fabbed up a couple of angle wrenchs for installing the header bolts.

Re: 63 Fit Headers

The Hookers are great headers. A little troublesome getting the bolts started and tightened.
The power steering ram will need a special bracket to lower it a bit. All headers need this bracket on these cars, same with all the other cars that use the same power ram.
And actually, Tri Y headers are better then 4 into 1's . They make more power and torque. Look at NASCAR, they are ALL Tri-y's for this same reason. 4 into1's are just easier to get the tune right and easier to manufacture and have become more popular, then tri-y's .

Re: 63 Fit Headers

wow I was thinking that tri-y's would be down on power compared to the 4x1's tube set up...cool

Re: 63 Fit Headers

The Hooker 6134's are for a 4 speed cars only and forget about changing the plugs as it's a nightmare.I've used the Hooker 6901 Mustang headers with great results and they fit nice plus you can do tune ups as required!
