Re: Help with a T5 into a 64 Fairlane

I will check to see if I have any pictures, clearance is pretty tight up in there. So it was hard to get decent pictures.

I used a air hammer to "massage" the cowl. Probably 1/2" to 3/4".

Will try to post some pictures later today. Still at work in Jersey, back in Indy later today.

I think you may be able to buy a Cable from CJ Pony Parts, The clevis at Speedway Motors?

Speedway Motors also has Hyd M/C and slave Cyl setups.

I'm having trouble resizing the pictures. PM me your email and I will send some pictures.

Thumbs up Re: Help with a T5 into a 64 Fairlane

I also recently completed a T-5 swap on my 64. I used a cable setup utilizing mustangsteves weld-on quadrant. As mentioned this requires modifying the cowl. I cut the cowl above the clutch pedal and fabbed and installed a "tunnel" for the quadrant to travel in. this creates a "dam" in the cowl, so I installed a drain tube to prevent water from pooling. I believe that 2.75" clearance is needed from the center of the clutch pedal pivot. there is more info on the M/S site. The clutch is very smooth and way less effort is required to operate compared to the old z-bar setup. another good part of these mods are that, other than the cable under the hood you cant see any of them. As with jetfixer this was a worthwhile project and the end result fantastic. Jon

Re: Help with a T5 into a 64 Fairlane

I was in the process of making a quadrent like the Mustang Steve piece, but didn't know how deep I wanted to get into cutting open the cowl.

Did you open the top of the cowl or do it all from the bottom?

Cartoad, very Cool! If my car wasn't painted and wired I would have tried that. Nice job.

Re: Help with a T5 into a 64 Fairlane

Thanks jetfixer, Its not real pretty, but it dosnt leak and you cant see it. I fastened That 'tunnel' with stainless steel screws to help discourage rust. The cowl floor is very thin sheetmetal and would have been a real bugger to weld and keep from rusting. I sealed it from the top with seam sealer applied with a squeeze tube and a piece of plastic tubing. should last the life of the car.

Yeah, I had to replace half of the Cowl in my car when I was restoring it. Good times drilling all those spotwelds out. I did that in 98 I think?
