Help with a T5 into a 64 Fairlane

Wanting to swap my c4 to a t5. Has anyone done the swap?

If so did you modify the crossmember or buy one? If bought, from who?

Cable or mechanical or hydraulic clutch actuation?

I've contacted DarkHorse Performance several times. Says he can help but never gets back in touch so I can get parts fro,m him.

Thanks for any help.

Running a 289 with hooker 6134's also.

I'm planning this swap too for my '63. I'd like to use a cable like Mustang Steve has for early Mustangs. For the crossmember, I'm not sure. I'm going to install the tranny then cross that bridge. Let us know what you find out.

Cool Re: Help with a T5 into a 64 Fairlane

About five years ago I put a TkO in a 64 fairlane, I would have prefered the T5 as it is smaller and the shifter comes up the same place as the four speed. My experience was first I had to modify the tunnel a whole bunch to keep things from touching, I tried a Z bar but the headers wouldn't allow that so I switched to a hydraulic. I did not like that system at all. Way too touchy, the size of the cylinder near the transmission would control the throw length. I spent many hours changing it out until it finally worked. I have another 64 I've just started, I plan on trying to make the Mustang cable clutch work in the Fairlane. I have one in my mustang and they are tits!! I had some other issues with my first fairlane, but experience has given me the drive to do another one RIGHT. Later Neil

Re: Help with a T5 into a 64 Fairlane

Same here, got my stuff from Darkhorse a while back.. TKO in a 64. For my headers I had to use a Quicktime bellhousing because I wanted a saftey bell, Fortes has a cool hyd slave that bolts up really well. The McCloud / Lakewood does not fit with headers, or at least not with my hookers. The lakewood hyd is pretty crappy too. After mine melted down a bunch of hot rod shops I talked to told me that they always have problems with it.
I have a wilwood master and its a tight fit, and really, if I had know how much trouble this all was going to be, I would have a hard time not just using the cable type instead. Do you already have the pedals? I might have another set headed for ebay soon...

Re: Help with a T5 into a 64 Fairlane

Modern driveline doesn't have a cable setup for the fairlane. I ordered a mustang kit to see if it could be modified to work. A stock mustang cable is a a tight fit when your running headers. Modern's cable is supposed to be longer.
I also had to Fab up a crossmember myself since I never could get Darkhorse to get back in touch with me via phone or emails. Could make others maybe if anyone is interested?

Re: Help with a T5 into a 64 Fairlane

Update to the T5 instalation.

It's done. And I Love it! With the 3.55's 2100 RPM at 70mph.

I fabbed up my own crossmember using a stock t5 Isolater. Might be able to use a 67 mustang Isolater and tuck it up closer. But as it is now my headers and exhaust hang lower then the crossmember.

I used Modern Drivelines cable and clevis. Had to Fab up my own lever to attach to the clutch pedel assy. Also had to make clearance between the top of the clutch lever and cowl area.

Try to post sum pics next week.

Later,
Steve
