intergrated power steering

anyone has any comments on this p.s. box for first generation fairlanes ???? the reason I ask is that my 63 HT had OEM P.S. and its all gone from previous owners... it has a 4 spd toploader/David Kees mod. shifter, dougs tri-y's and mechanical clutch... I'm leaning towards the oem set-up or this intergrated power box... looks like fit would fit quit well since my car is manual steering at the present time... the company is direct fit brakes and it is on ebay,,,

Re: intergrated power steering

I've been looking for this for years. Who is the vendor? Direct Fit Brakes? It would be a plus if it was aluminum cased, also...

Re: intergrated power steering

i think it is cast iron...yes,direct fit brakes... i was thinking in the rack and pinion system but, the fitment with tri-y headers is the issue...

Re: intergrated power steering

I am using a modified saginaw 605 box from a Malibu in my 64 Fairlane. It is similar to what the 55-57 chevy guys have been using for years. Modified similar to this 605 Power Steering conversion for the tri-five Chevy's . I used the sector shaft from a stock Fairlane box. Been using if for a few years now. Not as good as what a rack would be but better than the leaky and vague feeling stock power setup.

Re: intergrated power steering

Yes, I am very crafty because I'm a cheap SOB ! The most expensive part was the new power steering lines, which were for a 86 Sunbird(slightly tweeked). I also used a chevy "canned ham" style pump, which has higher pressure than the ford one.
