Re: 427 fairlane

Yes, they were quite the car! Too bad you got rid of it, but that's easy to say now.
Big Input Toploader parts are probably easier to get now than they were then.

Re: 427 fairlane

Nope. My auto had the smaller diameter input shaft. Which is why maybe that had the persons at the parts counters sctatching their heads. I remember that one fellow mentioned ...."One of those" and sent me to yet another place who knew more about them. Which also may be why the toughness in locating parts.

Re: 427 fairlane

Correct , only 57 were made , however that year there was a train wreck taking 20 of those cars to Georgia to a ford dealership that derailled . Only 10 surrived (factory lightweight cars) . We have the whereabouts of only 5 that exsist , maybe more .

Re: 427 fairlane

Rcode, are you saying you only know of 5 of these cars?? I don't think this was a factory lightweight i.e. alum fenders etc. he was just an average joe blow who order it from a ford dealer. He had to go to 3 dealers before he found one who would order the car for him with a very hefty down payment. I'am looking at the window sticker now $4159.43 with 3mos or 4000 mi pwr trn warranty ha! ha! qtr mile at a time the 3 mos will be up first

Re: 427 fairlane

Rcode427, re that train wreck; I read (somewhere?) that it happened in 1967, and that 5 of 10 (67) 427 Fairlanes were destroyed. It would seem unlikely that 20 66's, of only 57 made, would be headed to one dealership in Georgia? I am curious; Is your info source reliable?

Re: 427 fairlane

Impressive!, Dean, and very rare to find a build sheet in one of these cars. I don't think the 67 427 cars came with them.
Very nice 56 as well!

Re: 427 fairlane

Sorry Bob for not replying sooner to your question .
I am not sure of just how many were on that train , maybe you are correct but I can find out . One of those cars I took the motor out a few months ago that fell off the train . It is at the speed shop where my race car is .
The car I am talking about is a dollar bill fairlane sold to Bill Irland in the sixties . Bill died couple years . He never made a name for that car , sold it as well in the sixties . Man that made a name for the car and still holds records today was a man name Jim Van Cleaves , also died about a year ago . Car now is owned by Pat Gerek , a friend of over 30 years to me who I respect very highly . I can post you that car when Jim owned it so you can read if you like .
As well I have seen the article of those cars that Pat was telling me of and owns one , still has the dent in quarter panel . I will ask him the whole story of truth and details , get back with you .

Re: 427 fairlane

Welcome to Van Cleve Ford This is the fairlane I am talking about . I had a article of hot rod mag that ran a story of this car as a factory lightweight , a 67 . Came with 2 4s , 4 speed , fiberglass fenders , tubbed , aluim bumpers and so on if I am not mistaken . Anyway the car is 1 hundreds off world record at this time and also coming out of the shop this week stronger than ever .
