Buckets for a 66 Fairlane

Okay, I know this has been asked before, and it seems like there's not alot of folks out there putting "other than stock" buckets in their 66 Fairlane to replace the bench seat. Admittedly, I too would like a set of stock buckets, but they are just too dang pricey to me. So, I thought I'd ask the question again and solicit some input.

I saw someone is using BMW convertible seats, with the integrated shoulder belt. It got me thinking about doing the same, albeit out of a bit more "driver" type car. So, I looked hard at Chrysler Sebring convertible seats with the integrated shoulder harness. Dang near went that route until I did a bit more research. Come to find out, the shoulder belt is power controlled, and is integrated with a sensor underneath the center console. The sensor detects when the car is in a panic attitude (greater than .7 G, roll greater than x etc... The later ones are even further integrated with the airbag. There is no mechanical inertia lock and the module applies power to the belt (or cuts power to the belt) which locks/unlocks it. That, combined with recalls on some of the seats, makes me steer away now.

Okay, so since this isn't a Chrysler forum, let me get off that kick. Anyone have any ideas on what buckets "look good" in the 66 Fairlane. I want something that's comfortable for longer rides and also fills the area enough so it looks like it could belong. Im giving up on the integrated safety belt (at least from the sebring seat). I was thinking about 90's model T-Birds or something along those lines.

Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Re: Buckets for a 66 Fairlane

I have the summit brand seats in my 67 right now not to bad for the price. Its dark but I will get pics in the morning. Easy to install and look good in my opinion. Also only very minor fab work to get them in there just a few pieces of square tubing bolted to the seat then to the floor to get the correct attitude of the seats.

I have 68(believe) Galaxie buckets, I'm thinking of having the split bench re-upholstered while doing the interior in the spring.

Re: Buckets for a 66 Fairlane

I put the Pro car's from Summit in my 67. Look good I think. I can snap a pic if you like.

Not sure where you are at, But I am parting a 1970 Cougar and it has buckets in it that MIGHT bolt right in the Fairlane. If not direct bolt in, will be minor work.I am just North of Dallas. Let me know if interested. Probably too much to ship, but if you're local...

Army - Would like to see a pic of your seats installed whenever you get a chance.

dsfdlish - the Gal seats look good too, but I think folks want as much for those as they do the 'lane seats. If I could find 'em

dcs13.. I wish I was local. I have family and friends all over the Dallas area, but alas, Im in Georgia. If I was home for Christmas this year (which was the plan), I'd try to hook up... I would like to see a pic of the Pro Car's installed, if you don't mind.

I was also thinking about a set of 70's GM buckets... someone has a set for sale. If I recover them, mebbe no one would know.

Thanks guys... if anyone else has ideas out there, let me know.

Thanks

Mike

Re: Buckets for a 66 Fairlane

Thanks.. Those look pretty good. I'll have to take a trip up to Summitracing and see how they look up close and personal. The wife's not a real fan of "racing style" seats, and since she drives this car as well, she'll have to be consulted.

Thanks
