Re: motor tap !

your warm pressure is good, the cold is kinda high... Are you running a high volume pump? From what has been discussed on the FordFE forum, for a flat tappet engine, 1200 ppm if zinc is minimum... check out you favorite oil for info.... The high mileage oils usually have this... There as an additive you can buy too, which would go good w/ the synthetic...

Re: motor tap !

Thanks Ill look in to that oil supliment.I forgot to write about the oil pump and its pressure. When I hooked up the gages I was suprised about the oil pressure it seemed high to me. I expected 50 psi. cold and about 30 psi hot may be its a high valume pump or the previose owner took the safety valve of a stock volume oil pump.

Re: motor tap !

the thick oil will raise the pressure like that when it is cold... I've seen higher preeure, high enough to blow the filter apart...

How high of a pressure did you see to blow the oil filter apart?

Today I got the carb back on and I let it run for about 2 hours while I tuned the carb. With 1 quart of MMO and 3 1/2 of the 20-50 valvoline vr1 the motor started up nice and quiet with no valve train noise. With the MMO it started with a little less oil pressure, it srarted at 68 psi. cold and 38 hot at idle, and when I put it in drive with the brake on it had 30 psi. How does that sound to you?

PS. I researched the level of Zink (ZDDP) in the vr1 and it has 1200 ppm. witch is good for these motors, I just wish they had more of a selection of wieghts on the shelf. Next oil change Im going to look into the synthetics like you were saying.
