Steering Column Pin

I have a 63 fairlane that has the usual pin that holds the shifting arm into the column, and ever since I bought it the pin has been slid out just enough that it dosen't come through the top, and it's starting to eat-up the hole that it suppose to go through, In short, I need to some how move the pin, the question is how I've lubbed it, tapped it using the head of a nail (so it dosen't expand it) nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Thanks

I know that they make punches and pullers but I've herd they have little success also. I just wanted to know any tips/tricks to getting it done. Thanks for any info
