The Falcon Pages! Ford Falcon talk or questions?
I don't think the 4 bolt mains are necessary for any 351W block unless you'll be twisting it over 8000RPM or making over 850-900 horse but you would have a different setup that I haven't seen in a while. A 2 bolt main block and main guirdle will hold solidly to and a little above 750HP safely and reliably and with a partial 25%-40% fill in the block with Block Fill will up that number to 850-900HP easily but above that a 4 bolt main will be needed to keep the caps from walking all over the place. The smaller journal of the 351C isn't a critical factor in a non-endurance road race or non-asphault roundyround races like quarter mile drag racing and dirt roundy round racing where you don't have to run more tham 50 or 100 laps at which point a looser main bearing clearance and high volume and high pressure pump would flow enough oil past the main bearings and rod journals to keep them cool for moderate endurance races. The 351C 4 bolt mains in the Windsor would give you extra piece of mind and a more uniqueness to an already unique and attention getting Falcon. It adds more flash to the description of your car... "yeh, it's got a 4 bolt main 351W with a 351C crank and ...." and has a neatness factor or "cool" factor that I like since it isn't done much anymore. In all honesty, the stock 351W block with good main studs and main guirdle will handle more than you'll be willing to throw at it since it is a street car and has to have some street manners and I don't think you can tolerate as radical a setup as I can on the street so the 2 bolt 351W block would be fine. What engine are you building for the Falcon and what kind of go fast goodies do you plan on putting in it? Sounds interresting so far.....
