Hot 64 Sprint

I have a 64 Sprint with a mild 351W. I live in a climate where the temperature hovers in the 90s during the summer. The engine runs well over 200 degrees without the air conditioning on. With the air, it will boil over almost instantly. I've tried a brand new 3 row radiator, a new 4 row radiator, a 6 blade clutch fan, a 6 blade flex fan, a 7 blade flex fan, the original steel shroud, and a aftermarket fiberglass shroud. No combination of the stuff that I've tried seems to work. The flex fans are too thick. Either they touch the bottom pulley or they are too close to the radiator. The fixed blade fans don't seem to be able to draw throught the 4 row radiator. Someone please help!

It might be time to go with an electric! A friend of mine has had similar problems, I guess the lack of room in the engine bay can restrict the airflow around the engine in falcons. Somewhere I read about cutting some holes behind the shock towers for some "breathing" room. The guy I know went with a 4 row and a push pull setup. You might try posting this question in the tech forum for some more eye's and expertise with electric fans, etc...

Good luck!

Might be a good time to try a new water pump. Edelbrock makes a good line of high efficiency pumps.

I would try an ALUMINUM cross flow radiator, not a down flow type. Along with the 6 blade clutch fan, and a shroud. A 351 takes up nearly all the available space, and if you happen to have headers, it makes the cooling job just that much harder (be thankful that you dont have an FE in there).
If you're not against doing so, you can try propping the rear of the hood up about an inch or two, this will let the heat esscape from under there. Remember, the heat molecules are 'stacking up' inside the engine bay after the air passes thru the radiator, it has nowhere to go!

Thanks for the imput guys. I think that the aluminum crossflow radiator might be the next move. Stan, you are absolutely correct about the space problem. With the three row radiator, there is less than 4 inches of clearance between the water pump and the core. The Heddman "Mustang engine swap" headers are the long tube type. They touch both shock towers and the firewall on the drivers side. There is no place for the air to exit the engine compartment. Has anyone ever done this 351W with air-conditioning into a 64-65 Falcon swap before?
