Pics Of Mini-tubbing Our 460 Powered 1969 Falcon....

As a few know I have a low budget project that I am trying to keep under $5000.00.

Here is a photo album I am compiling as we go along.

http://community.webshots.com/album/51662180htYbCL

We have 3 1969 Falcons so I do not want to put all my eggs in one basket.

I bought this 1969 for $50.00.

I got the "drivetrain special" which is a 460 w/C6 trans and a 9" rearend out of a 1978 Mercury Marquis that I bought for the whopping sum of $400.00 and drove it home!

Crites, thanks to Kent telling me about them here on the board, sold me everything I needed to make the swap.

Motormounts, crossmember and trans isolator, 2" headers and reducers cost approximately $550.00.

A friend gave me a Edelbrock Performer Aluminum intake and chrome valve covers.

I bought a Crane PowerMax cam/lifter combo for $105.00 and still need valve springs that can handle 520 lift without binding.

To get power to the ground better we are mini-tubbing the project and moving the rear frame rails in a few inches to fit in the 295/50-15 BF Goodrich radials ($98.00 each) mounted on Cragar S/S 15X10" wheels ($200.00 + $40.00 shipping) up under the car without loosing the overall stock look.

My goal is to keep the car's stock appearance as much as we can.

As soon as we come up with some solid measurements I will post more pics on narrowing the rear end.

I am open to any suggestions!

Thanks guys!

Dave, the Crane website plus the guy I bought the cam off of told me I must use the Crane springs also.

You are using a higher lift with no problems, huh?

I have stock rocker arms.

Thanks!

Good job Johnny. Nice pictures. Are you staying with the stock leaf spring or doing a cheap ladder bar coil over? It well lend it self to future mods with the ladder bars easyer.

Thanks CoolFalcon!

I am moving the leaf springs in approximately 6".

The coil over 9" reareand I have needs all the brackets cut off of it anyway so I can locate the spring perches anywhere I like.

I thought that maybe this way was the most economical (cheap!) way to go.

Ok I'm going to play devils advocate here. If you are going to go to that much work just to relocate the leaf springs inboard, why not just install a ladder bar w/coilover suspension?

Don't get me wrong, I love what you're doing, and I can only assume it's cost that's keeping you from going to a ladder bar setup.

Nice to see someone else doing something with the '69 falcons. I have a 351C powered '69, I'm thinking about installing a ladder bar setup this winter. I'll keep watching your project, keep us posted on how your leaf spring relocation goes.

Thats my thinking also. You could hit a swap meet and find ladders and coil overs cheap and get rid of the old heavy leaf springs.
