HELP! 302/351 Harmonic Balancer ??

I just bought a 65 Ranchero that has a '78' 302-2v Truck engine. Only #s I can see (right now) is D8TE off the EGR valve and intake.

Anyways, the engine has a vibration. (knew it when I bought it). Dude said it was a bad damper. Ok... No problem right ??

Just picked up a 28oz damper off a Small block today (D00E-C1.

I was checking out the one on the Ranchero and it is thicker! It's about 1 1/2" thick -Vs- about 1" thick for the D00E!

WTF is going on here! Did a previous owner accidently install a 50oz balancer or WHAT ???

How thick are 50oz balancers ??

I can't remember what year they switched dampers, but I know the early one is not compatible with the later one. If you turn your block upside down, I think the right (pass) side, you will see the block's casting numbers. These will help you figure out what damper to use.
The used stuff we buy isn't always what we think it is.

Just got the # of the damper (from the engine in the car).

It's C9TE-A2.

Is that a 28oz balancer ??

If so, can I swap it out with the thinner D00E-C1 28oz balancer ??

i put a 79 LTD 302 28oz 4bolt balancer on my 69 28oz 302.Also changed it over to a serpentine belt [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif[/img] all fron the 79
