Has Anyone Done a "Mini-tub?"

'64-'65 Falcon/Comets must have a bigger wheelwheel than a '60-'63 because there is no way a 295/50/15 tire would fit an early car. Also the gas tank must be different or mounted different because I had to move it on my car to get the springs in.

Has Anyone Done a "Mini-tub?"

Thanks fxcomet,I had Crites fax me an instruction sheet not too long ago and it does seem pretty simple. I'm going to re-locate the springs, with the Crites kit or a "home-fabbed" relocation. I bought the rear axle for it today, a toyota 8". Don't laugh, these rears are narrow and almost as tough as an anvil. They come with a pretty serious gear ratio too. I have a buddy running one in a Brand X car and with the addition of a spool, it's held up great. Thanks for the pic Just Jim.

Apparently so. Crites told me that a 10" wheel would fit using a 12" wide tire providing the housing was narrowed 2" per side. My fender lips are rolled and there's a tab along the inner fender well that I've rolled inward as well. There's about 4" of clearance between the tank and the frame rails on my car.

Great discussion everyone, the more pictures the better. I am getting a pretty good picture of what it takes to do a "mini-tub." I wrote off to Crites for info on their Kit.
Thanks

Hummm. I was just wanting that tire combo on my 63 Falcon Futura Hardtop and was curious if it was cut/modified underneath to fit the tires shown in the above photo.

If anyone knows or has something similar on there ride.. please email or post what can be done. I see dearborn classics sells these rims.. maybe they can give me an idea of what will fit and what will not.

Thanks

RedFalcon, another Falcon owner sent me the attached website where it is explained how to measure the well in order to figure out the biggest tires that will fill it:

Has Anyone Done a "Mini-tub?"

I have been doing some research for about the past month. i have a 63 hardtop and i want to put some 16" torque thrust 2's on my car. what i have found is american racing offers a 16x7 with 4" backspacing but 4-1/2" will be custom. custom means $50 more a wheel on top of the $190 price tag. I bought 1 16x7 with 4" backspace and put it on the rear without a tire and i had only about 5/8" clear between the edge of the wheel and the quarter lip. i figured that tire bulge with a 205 or 215 would be between 3/8- 5/8". I ended up returning the wheel because i did not want to roll the lip and still have them rub. now i am thinking about spring relocation. hhhhhmmmmm.

I agree with Just Jim.I think that car is stock. The tires don't look that wide to me either.Probably a 6 inch rim.
