I posted a message on your other question. If you are going to tub your car, the size of the rearend will not matter. YOu could get one out of anything as it will need to be cut anyhow. Get one out of a 70's truck or van.

If you move in the leaf springs in about four inches on each side. you can fit a 10inch wheel in there no problem (this is without rolling the fenders too). Crites restoration has a kit to relocate the springs. I have a 64 falcon with 17x10 wheels in the rear. This helps out as you can fit a wider tire without actually cutting into the car. Unless you want to, then tub away.

31x18x15 on mine. Why leave the leafs in there go with a ladder bar coil over. Allot nicer less weight. Buy the tires and wheel you want to put in there first. Then start the project.

Buy the wheels and tires first. Remove the rear and springs, cut the inner fender wells as needed to fit the tires like you want. Measure between the inner mounting flanges of the wheels. That will be the flange-to-flange distance you need. My suggestion is to take this dimension to a rear end shop and have them make a housing and order axles to accomodate your need.

Alternately, as suggested, get a rear that fits, then get rims to place the tires where needed and move everything in the way.

If you are serious about back halffing the car, keep in mind this is not a job for the sqeamish,or the inexperienced. You need good welding skills and good fabrication skills and a tape measure! Measure, measure and measure again! A great resource is the Chris Alston chassis catalog...the latest issue just arrived over the weekend. They back half a 65 Mustang coupe with a 4 link and have all the photos and details. I did mine in 1985 and went with a ladder bar setup with coil- over shock set up. Currie handled the narrowing chores on my 9 inch and resplined the axle shafts.Been fine tuning ever since, and am finally happy with the results.
Keep in mind though, when you're done, a car with huge wide tires on the rear and tall skinnies on the front will handle like a cow on skates on the street. If the streets get wet...well it's like a cow on skates ON CRACK!

Its not as hard as it seems. You do have to be able to run a good bead when welding use a square and measure very close. I did mine with no prior experience and it goes straight down the road hooks good looks good. Saved a lot of money
