Any 8" from a 65/66 mustang is a direct fit, also 9" from 57 Fords is a direct bolt on. I have an 8" housing and a set of axles out of my comet if you're interested.

This is just the housing and axles, not the center section. Email me if you're still interested.

Problem finding rearend for a 65 Falcon

I probably did not enter the original info.
clearly. I have the original rear end still
under the car. It came with a 6 banger and
now has a 79 302 which my dad and I just
finished rebuilding, approx. 275 - 300 h.p.
What I need or need to know is what would be
best rear end with posi-track or the like
and gears some where around 3:55 for the
bucks. There so much talk about 8.8 or 9 inch
rears that it can get a little confusing.
Sorry if i was not clear on the original
question and thanks for the reply.

A properly set up 8" will handle 300HP without problems. The Ford "limited slip" is hard to find.

Problem finding rearend for a 65 Falcon

Thanks for the replies, but I am still
somewhat in the dark. I am 17 yrs. old
and this is my first car that i am building
with my dads help. He has been out of building cars for about 30 years while he raised a family and never really worked on any Fords even as a kid, so he is kind of learning as we go to. I am on a budget due to the fact I just started working about a year ago, so i don't make a lot of money yet and i'm paying for everything done to the car. A couple of questions. no. 1 what do you mean by aproperly built 8 inch? Are you talking about getting an 8 inch and then changing the gears out. Question no. 2 whats involved in having one built and what do you mean by mini. Thanks again for any answers, were not dumb, we just don,t know yet.

A 8 inch with good parts will hold up to your power.

Minitubs are bigger than stock rear wheel tubs put in the fit bigger rear tires.

No stupid questions here so if we can help ya ask away!

Thanks to CKelly, CoolFalcon, FXComet & DynoTom for all the input, sometimes even with all the car mags, books, and the like which we have, we still kind fo feel like we are out in limbo land, and being able to ask questions over the forum really helps. Also were still learning GearHead lanquage. My next question is, if you were going to start looking for a 8 inch rear, what cars would be the most likely, or maybe the question should be the easiest to find that would have this rear end under them? Thanks again.
