Newbie Question...

I need to know (soon) what my options are for lowering my '61 Comet. I'd LOVE to slam it but I have speed bumps where I live. Not sure if cutting springs is viable because I am a rather large fellow. I was thinking progressive's would be nice but I dunno if anyone sells them. And what about the leafs? Bagging is out of the question (for now) because I have help right now I just don't have the $$ for bags. I have never lowered a car before so ANY advice will be helpful.

Thanks!

Newbie Question...

I used 6 cyl springs on my falcon and it still wasent that low. Only had 1.5 inches of travel left. With my mustang II IFS i useing 2 inch drop spindles and a set of 126 15 tires will see how low it is then when i get to motor and trans in it.

Newbie Question...

I cut my front springs to get the height you see on my signature. I didn't take the advice of the guy who tubbed it and get a spring set with the right height and diameter to get the height.

Just took the old wiz wheel and chopped a couple turns off the springs. It stiffens the ride a lot which I don't mind, but you might. Any local spring company can match a spring with what you want. You'll also have to find a set of shocks for the front that are shorter so you have more shock travel left. (See coolfalcon's response).

I suspect the leafs can be dropped easily with a lowering kit/blocks. Just watch your clearances to the subframe/trunk floor/exhaust.

Well, with a 2-3/4" ground clearance from the header flange you don't want to hit bumps at speed too hard. Speed bumps are out completely. There's about 1" of travel before the snubbers get hit so just remember it ain't no SUV!

Don't forget to look for Mustang stuff for the rear either. Comet/Falcon are pretty close if not the same depending upon year.

I think that Kentucky food might have just a little to do with the ride height of Phat. Can't say for sure though.

Jim if you can't be constructive just keep it zipped

OK so I gained a little weight and the Falcon doesn't fit me like it used to. I put j bars in it, but it's still a squeeze.

Newbie Question...

Welp I'm 6'5" 330#'s... heh heh maybe I should just call myself the lowering kit? Nah all kidding aside I'm gonna go buy the blocks right now. I didnt want to crawl under the car to check tube diameter but it doesnt look like anyone knows offhand. It DOES matter right? I mean if its a 2 1/2" tube and the u-bolts are 3" will that create a problem?

Sorry, but I couldn't resist. We do have Kentucky Chicken out here ya know.I'm not exactly svelte myself. The Morris has a swing down bar to allow me to get in!

The 3inch u bolts should be fine. Might just have to enlongate the holes in the spring plate.
