Electric Fan for 61 V8 Falcon

Has anyone installed an electric fan on a early Falcon with a 302 V8. I was going to use the Flexalite model 150, but found out it might be too thick to fit between my water pump pulley shaft and radiator. Don't have much clearance here, has anyone experienced the same problem? Solutions?

Thanks

I have run into the very same problem with my car, where the top pulley is too close to the radiator. Not enough room for an electric fan. I think it may be possible to use a late model thin core radiator, combined with dual electric fans, where the pulley would be situated between the fans? Just a thought, but I hope someone can answer. Otherwise, I'm switching to a clutch fan.

This was my solution for now. It's the biggest Flexlite fan for its thickness that would fit between the pulley and radiator. A larger diameter fan would fit with a thinner radiator. I've got about 1/2 inch or less of clearance. Makes me nervous watching it turn!!

No help on a 61, but hows this for clearance in the new dual setup for the Mustang?

PhatFalcon,
What fan is that you are running? What model flex-a-lite? Do you have any overheating problems with it?

I'm running a 302 in my 62 with a 66 Mustang waterpump and radiator. The car that my motor came out of was for a different sided lower radiator hose. I went through Hell finding the smallest WP pulley in the junk yard and a smaller crank pulley because they were touching. With the new WP the pulley was offset 2 or so inches downward. The catch is that I was able to run my Flexlight fan off this WP now with a 1" or 1.5" spacer. Also have a pusher fan in front of the radiator for the warmer days.

I installed a flexolite model 30 fan ,w/o the fan housing/shroud, (wouldn't fit) between grill and radiator of my 62 comet with 289/aod. I had to move my motor 1 1/2" forward so the larger than C4 bellhousing would clear the firewall w/o cutting it. It left me less than 2" of clearance between the pulley and 3-row 20" radiator I installed from 67 mustang. It works great, but I know it would work better if the fan shroud was still in place.

If you show me how to upload pics, I'll put some up.

It's a model 120 kit, 12" with shroud. Got a 180 degree thermostat and in the summer I'm running between 180 and 210 when idling in the 90+ degree Louisville heat.

There's no room to mount it on the grille side due to the inward curve and hood latch support.
