Oil Pan Question for you Late Model Falcon Guys

I'm in the process of shopping for an oil pan for my 66 Ranchero. I'll be installing a 351 windsor based 408. Do I have to go with the traditional front sump pan, or can I install a rear sump pan? I know that the oil pump mounts on the front of the block (bottom front), so I know I'll need a pickup tube that matches the pan. My question had more to do with the fit of the pan in relation to the cross member. Also, are there header fitment concerns. I'm also shopping for a set of long tube 1 3/4 (minimum) headers. All responses are appreciated & if any of you have any of this stuff laying around collecting dust, let me know. One man's junk is another man's treasure.

You cannot use a rear sump because of the drag link. The car is a rear steer car - unless you swap in an MII suspension. FWIW, the 67 has a Milodon 9 quart and it clears the big welded in crossmember by 1/2".

Oil Pan Question for you Late Model Falcon Guys

The pan in the picture below is a Moroso 8 Qt pan (20510)with scrapers on the bottom. (Won't wotk with a 351 with 4 bolt rear main). This pan worked quite well for 250 runs at over 7500 RPM. (also I used a 3rd party windage tray).

Be aware that any of these deep sump pans need extended pickups and that created a problem in my application. Twice the Moroso pickup cracked right at the welded support brace from vibration. Had to fabricate my own brace to stop this.

Changed to a new pan from Armondo in Calif. with a much beefier pickup, and no problems to date. He makes a great pan that actually gave me 2" more of ground glearance over the Moroso.

Hope this helps.

Oil Pan Question for you Late Model Falcon Guys

I absolutely loved my 9qt 351W Canton road race pan. It had 4 trap doors, crank scraper, bolt in sump tray over the trap door walls, and a very nice pickup tube. A guirdle may have fit too but I sold it when I thought I wanted out of the small blocks to run stroker big block and sold all my 351W stuff. Now I got a Milodon 8qt front sump and it is nothing compared to the Canton and running 351W again(stroker this time). These oil pans were both front sumps and they are not deeper than stock, just wider. No header clearance issues either. Shoulda, woulda, coulda...
